BELARUSIAN RECEIVES A NOBEL PRIZE

Byalyatsky founded the Viasna human rights center in 1996. He was convicted in 2011 on charges of tax evasion that international human rights organizations deemed baseless and politically motivated and was released in 2014. In the summer of 2021, the human rights activist was again arrested in connection with mass protests after the 2020 presidential election. Now he remains behind bars.
